Snowball fights are usually a fun activity when guidelines are set. There’s typically a “don’t go for the head” or “only below the waist” memorandum. However, no such rules existed this past week on the SMU campus. All throughout the day on both Thursday and Friday students pelted each other with icy cold snowballs. Those who leisurely made their way to class were prime targets. Out of excitement, I too threw a tightly packed ball of snow in the direction of an older SMU football player. I watched my first snowball sail through the air and then suddenly realized that it was in fact headed for his face. A split second later he was on the ground with both hands covering his eye. I couldn’t believe it. What was supposed to be a gesture of fun enthusiasm turned into me giving him a swollen black eye and a bloody nose. Of course I ran over to him to apologize profusely and help him to his feet. - But it was then that I realized that with the onset of snow, our SMU campus had turned into a dangerous warzone. So I have to ask, were you as frightened as I was when trying to navigate your way around campus last Thursday and Friday?
I couldn't agree more! Although I too am guilty of throwing snowballs at friends, and prime targets. The campus went crazy as classes were cancelled, a very rare occasion. The campus honestly looked like a white wonderland! Lets see if this is round two for campus war-zone with the new snowstorm coming in tomorrow night!
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone! Even though I am from Wisconsin and should be able to handle the “warzones” that come along with every snowfall, I was definitely intimidated. I too started off as a prime target by leisurely walking to class and thinking that everyone was overreacting about the minimal amount of snow on the ground. On my way, I was hit by at least three snowballs. This definitely woke me up for my first class of the day!
ReplyDeleteI completely AGREE! On the thursday it snowed a lot I was driving on greenville and there was a massive snowball fight going on: one side of the street versus the other side. It was somewhat amusing because they were two bars with porches, but it became serious when the two cops that were driving in front of me became the target instead of the two sides. They immediatly turned their lights on, but they were being hit by snowballs on both sides. This would be an example of it being over the top and a little carried away. So I couldn't agree more, there were some problems with the massive amount of snow that came.
